For example, the “pun” on labels of Phu Quoc fish sauce products of other manufacturers without geographical indications is causing many misunderstandings for consumers as well as affecting the reputation of the products. protected.

According to the Phu Quoc Fish Sauce Association, at present, 60/80 businesses have been granted a certificate of protection of geographical indications for the Phu Quoc fish sauce brand, the rest are completing procedures. It is estimated that each year these businesses supply about 24 million liters of Phu Quoc fish sauce to the market.

Up to now, along with efforts to improve quality, enterprises granted geographical indications are stepping up the fight against counterfeit and poor quality goods.

The European Union (EU) granting geographical indications is opening up a great opportunity for Phu Quoc fish sauce products to expand the market, marking the competitiveness of Vietnam’s agricultural, forestry and fishery products in the market. international School. According to Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Ho Thi Kim Thoa, when achieving the European Union’s Geographical Indication certification, Phu Quoc fish sauce products will have to follow a strict process from input materials (which are fish and fish). rice) to the production and bottling process.

Specifically, the fishing area for raw materials used to process Phu Quoc fish sauce must be the waters of Kien Giang and Ca Mau. The percentage of anchovies in raw materials must be at least 85%.
